Rainwater & Storage
Softer water = happier pots. A small butt and simple filter power a whole balcony.
Small Butt Setup
- Fit a diverter to a downpipe or shed gutter.
- Use a lidded 100–200 L butt; place on a stand for gravity.
- Install a tap, inline filter, and quick-connect to 4 mm drip line.
Urban balconies: a lidded storage box works if plumbed to a mini gutter — keep it child-safe and stable.
Using Rainwater
- Best for tomatoes, blueberries, and iron-sensitive plants.
- Less salt build-up than hard mains water.
- If algae appears, keep the tank dark and flush the line monthly.
Winter Care
- Drain lines before hard frost; leave tap open if freezing is likely.
- Secure lids; prevent wind tipping.
