Troubleshooting
Diagnosing Plant Problems
Start simple: water, light, airflow. Then feed and pest checks. Most issues live there.
Quick Triage
- Water: check top 2–3 cm and pot weight.
- Light: enough hours? Rotate weekly.
- Airflow: thin congested bits; space pots.
- Feed: last feed date and strength?
- Pests: underside leaf check with a torch.
Symptoms & Likely Causes
| Symptom | Likely cause | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Yellowing, wet compost | Overwatering / poor drainage | Extend gaps; add perlite; raise pot. |
| Dry crispy edges | Drought / heat stress | Soak deeply; mulch; add shade mesh. |
| Pale leaves, green veins | Iron deficiency / high pH | Rainwater; chelated iron. |
| Stunted with purple tint | Cold roots / low P | Warmer spot; balanced feed. |
| White powder on leaves | Powdery mildew | Thin canopy; morning water; remove worst leaves. |
| Sticky leaves, ants | Aphids | Water blast; soapy wipe; flowers for predators. |
Change one thing at a time, then observe for 3–5 days.
