Composting & Wormeries
Small, clean and effective — perfect for flats and tiny gardens.
Wormery Basics
- Use Eisenia species (tiger worms). Keep between 10–25 °C.
- Feed small amounts: veg peels, coffee grounds, tea leaves, crushed eggshells.
- Avoid lots of citrus, onion skins, meat/dairy/oils.
- Cover scraps with cardboard or coir; keep just moist.
Simple Stack System
- Start with a base tray and bedding (moist coir/cardboard).
- Add worms; feed lightly for the first 1–2 weeks.
- When the tray fills, add a second tray on top — worms move upward.
- Harvest castings from the bottom tray; dilute leachate 1:10 for feed.
No smell rule: if it smells, you fed too much or it’s too wet. Add dry cardboard and pause feeding.
Balcony-Friendly Composting
- Small tumblers work if secured from wind.
- Bokashi pre-composts kitchen waste for later mixing into soil (use outdoors to finish).
- Use finished compost to top-dress containers mid-season.
