Windowsill Herb Garden
Fresh sprigs on demand. Start with 3–5 herbs and learn their light & water personalities.
Best Herbs for Indoors
| Herb | Light | Water | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basil | Bright, warm | Even moisture | Pinch tips weekly; hates cold draughts. |
| Parsley | Bright to part shade | Moist, not wet | Cut outer stems first. |
| Chives | Bright | Moderate | Shear and it re-sprouts quickly. |
| Coriander | Bright, cool | Even moisture | Prefers cooler rooms; sow little-and-often. |
| Thyme | Very bright | Dryer | Gritty mix; don’t overwater. |
Containers: 9–12 cm pots with saucers or a narrow trough with drainage holes.
Routine
- Turn pots weekly for even light.
- Water when the top 2 cm is dry; thyme/rosemary like longer gaps.
- Feed lightly every 2 weeks once growing well.
- Harvest little and often — never strip a plant bare.
Common Issues
- Leggy basil: not enough light — move closer to the window or add a small LED bar.
- Yellow parsley: waterlogging — use a freer-draining mix and empty saucers.
- Coriander bolts: too warm — grow in a cooler spot and succession-sow.
